Downsend School and Nursery in Leatherhead

Their vision is to create an inclusive, stimulating outdoor space that will benefit children, especially those with additional needs, by engaging all five senses.

The project aims to foster emotional development, inclusive play, and hands-on learning across the curriculum, while serving as a permanent feature of the nursery.

The school is seeking materials such as sleepers, fence posts, post mix, decking boards, soil, screws, and nails, and is committed to involving parents, staff, and local businesses in both the build and ongoing maintenance.

Their proposal highlights the garden's long-term educational and wellbeing benefits, as well as its potential to strengthen community ties.

The Lucy Rayner Foundation

Their aim is to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of depression and other mental health issues in young adults and to facilitate change in the way mental health is perceived by society.

They provide emotional support and education to young adults with mental health issues and their families and to build emotional resilience in our young adults.

The Lucy Rayner Foundation will in the next couple of weeks be sharing a big-build project which is going to have an amazing impact, where the landscaping materials would help to develop their garden.

Meath School in Ottershaw

A specialist setting for children with complex speech and language needs, would like to create a new sandpit and outdoor play area.

Their project aims to transform an existing space into an imaginative, accessible environment, featuring a purpose-built sandpit, weather-protected pergola, built-in seating, interactive storage wall, trellis panels, planters, and landscaping materials.

The school intends for these improvements to encourage creativity, sensory exploration, and social play, providing rich experiences that foster emotional regulation, communication, and inclusive participation for all children.

The initiative is expected to enhance wellbeing, offer functional learning and play opportunities for families and staff, and make the outdoor provision more welcoming for the whole school community, delivering a lasting positive impact.

Beacon Academy in Crowborough

They would like to create a dedicated outdoor learning and wellbeing space. Currently lacking purpose-built outdoor areas, the school aims to transform part of its site into a vibrant environment that supports hands-on learning across subjects such as Geography, Science, Art, and Food Technology.

The planned space will feature a garden for growing herbs and plants, a seating area, and a covered outdoor zone, enabling students to learn about ecosystems, sustainability, and environmental change through practical experience.

The initiative seeks to foster connections with local growers and gardening groups, enriching students' education and strengthening community ties.

Above all, Beacon Academy emphasises the importance of providing a calm, green space to support student wellbeing and mental health, believing the project will have a significant, positive impact on teaching, learning, and the school community.
